With the current economic recession hitting businesses and families everywhere across the states, schools are suffering as well. Budgets are being cut as well as staff members in order to save money.

One of the biggest challenges to face incoming Superintendent Bruce Borchers will be dealling with financial issues.

In March, the Rockwood School District (RSD) announced plans for staff reductions for the 2010-2011 school year in order to meet predicted budget shortfalls.

Through these reductions and the financial savings made through these cuts, the RSD believes this is a necessary step to take during difficult financial times.

And not only will teachers and staff members be cut, but entire positions are being eliminated for the next year. For example, with the resignation of the Associate Superintendent, the position will not be replaced for next year.

RSD believes with these changes in staffing, the district will be able to save nearly $1.5 million.

Another problem that arises is the significant decrease that future budgets will face. With the original budget projections and expenses exceeding $6 million from the revenue, the district will have to make additional reductions to balance the budget.

But with still many plans not yet finalized, the Board will continue to work out the current budget crisis and in June, will come to conclusion about the plans for 2011.
