Caitria Arnold, one of Lafayette’s own, has been chosen to compete in the Semi-final round of the St. Louis Teen Talent  Competition.

The competition was held February 9 and 10. The semifinals will take place on March 2 with freshman Caitria Arnold being one of the few chosen to compete.

Arnold has been dancing since age two at the Saint Louis Ballet Company located in the Chesterfield Valley. The ballet dancer of 13 years was urged in to the competition by her dance company’s artistic director and also by many friends and family.

Although Arnold made it rather far in the competition and was one of the few at Lafayette to make it thus far in the competition, it never crossed the dancer’s mind that she would have made it this far.

“I think I was just trying to tell myself that I would make it, but other people thought that I would definitely advance to the next round,” Arnold said.

To prepare for the competition, Arnold was given a routine choreographed by her dance academy’s creative director. This dance was practiced three to four times a week, every week. But even constant practice did not get rid of her nerves.

“I mean I was really prepared but as I saw all my friends go on stage and perform I became more and more nervous,” Arnold said.

Arnold is the only Lafayette student to advance to the Semi-finals which will be held on March 2 at the Fox Theatre.  Good luck to Lafayette’s own Caitria Arnold!
