Turning 18 and getting a tattoo is slowly become more popular. But for some, getting a tattoo is a big decision and a good alternative is a henna tattoo.
Henna tattoos are temporary tattoos that are made by putting ink onto the skin rather that into the skin like a regular tattoo.
“It looks cool after and lasts for a long time, but is not permanent like a real tattoo. It has the same affect,” senior Sam Laiderman said.
Laiderman began giving henna tattoos a few years ago at a youth group educational event. She said that for some Jewish people, like herself, it represents purity before marriage.
She begins her process with drawing in pen first to make sure the person likes the design she creates for them, then she will use the special ink to make the henna tattoo.
“I’ve given them to my friends who ask, they seem to really like them,” she said.
Laiderman doesn’t plan on making a career out of her henna tattooing, but said it’s something she will continue to do for fun.
“It’s a cool and different kind of art form,” she said.
