While most freshmen are learning to drive, Laynie Henning has a few years before she needs to worry about that.

At age 12, Henning believes she walked through the doors of LHS as the youngest incoming freshman.

Since her birthday in November, she still claims her title. She skipped 1st and 2nd Grade, thanks to a special reading program that she completed when she was younger.

Henning has an older sister, Annie, who is also a freshman.

While she won’t get her driver’s license until her senior year, she doesn’t really mind.

Henning believes going to college at such a young age could be difficult, though.

“It will put more stress on me to get things done, but I think I can do it,” Henning said.

Henning’s youth is not the only surprising thing about her.

She also has 14 siblings, though only three currently live with her. The rest of the family lives away, either in a different state or in Vietnam.

Henning was adopted from Vietnam as an infant and her parents have adopted four other children from there as well.

But to Henning, her life as one of 14 siblings and as a 13-year-old freshman isn’t at all surprising. To her, It simply is what it is: her life.
