Your Valentine’s Day can be just as fulfilling as others’ in relationships. To make it through Feb. 14 with a smile, follow these seven steps.

  1. Surround yourself with your best girl/guy friends who are single as well. That way you can laugh together about how you don’t have to be on your best behavior.
  2. Instead of going out with your latest crush, dress up and go out for a night on the town with your friends or family. This will give you a chance to people watch all the couples and have an “unusual couple contest”.
  3. DON’T sit a home watching The Notebook or other romantic movies by yourself. This will only bring the tears and make you feel sorry for yourself, two things that are Valentine’s Day no-no’s.
  4. Contrary to common belief, you are NOT the only single human being in the world on Valentine’s Day.
  5. On Feb. 14 buy boxes of chocolates for you and your friends to enjoy with each other. Because on the day of, all the chocolate will be half price!
  6. While you enjoy your box of chocolates, design home-made valentines for the people that you care about. Make goofy ones about your friends that re-touch some of those old middle school memories.
  7. Finally, realize tons of people love you: your friends, family, dogs and even your cats. (Even though they’re the only animal that thinks they’re better then you… they still love you!).
